Biography:
Impressionistic in style, Wigle is known for his Midwestern landscapes, seascapes, and Ashcan style city scenes of Detroit and Chicago. He was an active member of the Detroit artist community in the 1920s and 30s and could be found working in studios all over the city of Detroit. He was a resident of Indian Village and his works were frequently exhibited at the Detroit Institute of the Arts and the Scarab Club in the first half of the 20th century.
Highly regarded for his seasonal renderings and romantic treatment of landscapes, a multitude of his works can be found in many private collections in the Detroit area as well as within the Detroit Institute of the Arts and the Art Institute of Chicago. Wigle worked both as an artist and as a restorer for other artists and collectors, including Roy Gamble and Joseph Gies.
