Biography:
Born in South Bend, Indiana, in 1901, Bronislaw Makielski was the brother of artist Leon Makielski (American, 1995-1974) and the son of Polish immigrants. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. He was a painting instructor at the University of Virginia from 1922-23 and at Detroit Art Academy from 1930-36. His New Deal funded mural “Career Paths” is on display at Royal Oak Middle School in Royal Oak, Michigan. Additional murals can be found in Church of the Holy Comforter, Charlottesville, Va.; Lincoln School, Ypsilanti, MI; McDonald School, Dearborn, MI; Michigan State University, Lansing, MI; and the Martha Jefferson Hospital, Charlottesville, VA. Several of Makielski's works belong to the permanent collections of the University of Michigan and University of Virginia.
