Biography:
Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Elizabeth “Beth” Carlton Van Liere studied Art and French at the University of Michigan and attended the summer art school in Leland, Michigan, founded by Howard Church. Her extensive travels in Europe deeply influenced her work in oil, acrylic, lithography, and drawing, which often depict luminous landscapes and architectural scenes from France, the Mediterranean, and the American Northwest. Married to noted art historian Eldon Van Liere of Michigan State University, she combined artistic vision with a shared lifelong dedication to the arts.
