George Dallas Williamston, American, 1913-1998. A 1940s-1950s charcoal and graphite on paper drawing of men playing dice on a factory floor. Signed "Geo. Williamson" with additional stylized "WMSON" signature lower right. Image 16 3/4 x 22 3/4" high, framed 28 3/4 x 34" high overall.

Born in Grafton, West Virginia, in 1913, Williamston was a journeyman die maker, working27 years at Mullins Manufacturing Co. (Salem), United Tool & Die Co. (Salem), and the Packard Electric Division of General Motors Corp. (Warren). In 1938 he graduated from the Columbus Art School, now the Columbus College of Art and Design. During his lifetime he participated in several exhibitions in Detroit, Columbus and Toledo. His work is regarded for his complex depictions of Black American factory workers.
