Biography:
Richard Sears was born in California in 1924. He was educated in California, receiving his B.A. from Santa Barbara College of the University of California and his M.A. from the University of California at Berkley. Before joining the faculty at the University of Michigan in 1953, he taught at the University of California and the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco. He held one-an exhibitions at the Santa Barbara Museum, Raymond and Raymond Gallery in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and at the Forsythe Gallery in Ann Arbor. Since the early 1950s his work has been included in many regional and national exhibitions, and he received Rackham Faculty Research support for his work in painting.
