Born in Flint in 1898, Simpson was one of the first students at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. He was a retired General Motors Corp. drafting engineer who maintained a studio as the resident artist in the Scarab Club from 1956 until his death in 1966. He was known for his paintings of early Detroit industrial and garage scenes.
