Warren Simpson, American, 1898-1966. A 1940s watercolor on paper Jefferson Street, Detroit, garage scene, titled "Auto Repair". Signed "W. Simpson" and dated "'49" with additional "Warren Simpson" signature on matting lower right, titled "Auto Repair" on matting lower left. Image 28 1/4 x 20 3/4" high, framed 37 3/4 x 30" high overall.

Born in Flint in 1898, Simpson was one of the first students at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. He was a retired General Motors Corp. drafting engineer who maintained a studio as the resident artist in the Scarab Club from 1956 until his death in 1966. He was known for his paintings of early Detroit industrial and garage scenes.
