Patricia Rist
Patricia was born in Sioux City, Iowa in 1929. Her love of art was nurtured throughout her childhood attending art lessons in her local Sioux City community. She graduated cum laude from the University of South Dakota with an undergraduate degree in Advertising Art and a Masters degree in Art Education. In 1967, Patricia moved to East Lansing, Michigan where she taught in the East Lansing Public Schools, including Hannah Middle School and East Lansing High School. In 1972 she formed the East Lansing Arts Workshop in the old Marble School while serving on the East Lansing Fine Arts Commission and organizing the East Lansing Arts Festival. Patricia was responsible for organizing art exhibitions featuring mid-Michigan artists in the East Lansing Public Library and the Kresge Art Museum. A longstanding member of the Michigan and American Watercolor Societies, Patricia was an accomplished watercolor and oil painter - She received numerous awards for her work in a variety of national and regional juried shows including the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Toledo Museum of Art. Her paintings have been purchased by the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum in Lansing, the Michigan Education Association and private collectors nation-wide.
