Randall Higdon

Artist Statement: "Since 1978, after six years of graphic design and illustrating in commercial advertising, I have devoted my energies to fine art painting. Primarily recognized for my representational works in watercolor and oil, I have rekindled my affection with the non-objective execution of painting. From the time of my college years I've simplified realistic compositions to purely mass, line and value, and have painted in a non-objective manner sporadically since those earlier years. In some ways I have brought the working with transparent watercolor over into my execution non-objectively in acrylic. When investigating these works you will find subtle thin washes along with heavier boldly applied paint using brushes and whatever. Calligraphy oriented lines are intermixed within the compositions to soften the large masses and add a "spank" of color for visual excitement. I am not making any grand philosophical statement in my executions; simply enjoying the physical act of painting; balancing the elements of mass, color, line and texture within a given dimension."

Randall Higdon is a graduate of Kendall College of Art & Design. He is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and the American Society of Marine Artists.
